1st Calderon Cup fires off in Dumanjug
AFTER thorough planning and extensive preparation, the 1st Calderon Cup 21-Under Inter-town Basketball Tournament finally gets going this Saturday, March 21, at the Jose Macoy Gymnasium in Dumanjug, Cebu.
Highlighting the opening day is the main game duel between host team Dumanjug and Ronda. Kicking off the double-header is the 6 p.m. curtain-raiser between Alegria and Malabuyoc.
The grassroots competition is participated by eight towns belonging to the 7th District of Cebu headed by Rep. Patsy Calderon.
Ushering in the inaugural tournament is the grand opening ceremony at 3 p.m. The opening festivities will be highlighted by the selection of the Miss Calderon Cup 2026.
Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara and Moalboal are grouped in Bracket A while Badian, Alegria, Ginatilan and Malabuyoc are in Bracket B.
Mayors of the participating towns are expected to grace the much-awaited opening.
Featuring a home-and-away setup, the tournament will follow a double-round robin format in the elimination round. The top two teams in each bracket after the eliminations will automatically advance to the semifinal round.
No. 2 and No. 3 teams will duke it out in the crossover quarterfinals for the two remaining semifinalists.
The tournament is supervised by organizing committee chief Atty. Ramil Abing, the brainchild of the highly successful Governor's Cup during the administration of former Cebu governor Hilario Davide Jr., along with league commissioner Jun Migallen and deputy commissioner Rey Caรฑete.(CCM)
