FROM the mayor’s office in Albuera, Leyte to the Cebu City Jail.

Such was the case for controversial Albuera Mayor Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa, who surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI-7) on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Espinosa turned himself in a day after an arrest warrant was issued against him by Judge Merlo Pasco Bagano of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 14 in Cebu City.

The arrest warrant against Espinosa was issued after he was indicted in September 2024 over an alleged murder case in Baybay City. The trial of the case was transferred to Cebu City upon the appeal of the victim’s family.

No bail was recommended for Espinosa’s temporary liberty.

Espinosa’s fellow accused, Marcelo Adorco, and Eddie Mar Mitra, also surrendered.

Espinosa arrived at NBI-7 Headquarters in Cebu City around 10 a.m., marking his first public appearance since Jan. 20.

Special Agenct Gregorio Algoso Jr., Executive Officer for Administration of NBI 7, said Espinosa’s lawyers arrived in their office to inform that the mayor will surrender.

Espinosa and the two other accused underwent booking procedures at the NBI-7 Headquarters. They were brought to the RTC court to process their committment order.

Espinosa was also brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for a routine medical check-up before he was committed to the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

While Espinosa is detained, his sister, Mariel Espinosa, is likely to take over as Albuera’s chief executive being the town’s vice mayor.(CDB)
