AT LEAST six people have been killed and several others injured after a bus caught fire in a town in western Switzerland, according to police.
The incident occurred at around 18:25 local time (19:25 GMT) on Tuesday in the centre of Kerzers known in French as Chiètres in Fribourg Canton, about 20km (12 miles) from the capital, Bern.
In a report by BBC, police said at least three people were taken to hospital for treatment, while reports also indicated that a rescuer sustained injuries during the emergency response.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is underway to determine whether the blaze may have been deliberately started.
Reports have also emerged suggesting that a person may have doused themselves in gasoline, although authorities said immediate confirmation was not possible.
Video posted by local media shows the bus engulfed in flames, while a local resident described seeing a thick column of smoke rising into the sky. The bus involved had reportedly travelled from the municipality of Düdingen, about 17km south of Kerzers.(Jeff Marco Zamora, BiPSU Comm Intern)
