AJ Rival stars as SR&T makes Final 4 in CABC hoops

AJ RIVAL delivered the goods and led SR & T Industrial Supply to a 96-67 thrashing of Elite Athletics in the quarterfinal round of the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) 8th Corporate Cup on Sunday, July 19, at the Game Changer in Mandaue City.

Rival tormented the rival opponent by tallying 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and two steals as the twice-to-beat SR&T advanced to the semifinal round.

It was Jyrell Allanic who actually top scored for the No. 1 seed SR & T in scoring with 22 points. Criz Matunog was also solid with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Philip Alegado and Reynelle Cardenas contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Kiro Canillo led the eliminated Elite Athletics with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Also making it to the semis were No. 2 seed Landlite and third-ranked Boysen Paints.

Landlite trampled No. 7 Landlite, 86-65, with Manuel Niere tallying 24 points, five assists, three rebounds, and a steal. Boysen, on the other hand, mangled No. 6 Davies Paints, 109-72, behind Lemuel Aspacio, who erupted for 28 points.

Forcing a do-or-die match was No. 5 Corr Chem, which drubbed No. 4, EZ Pavers, 109-75.

The top four teams in the quarterfinals enjoyed twice-to-beat bonuses.

In the semis, Landlite will take on Boysen while SR&T will await the winner in the EZ Pavers-Corr Chem sudden-death match.(CCM)
