Another poultry in Asturias shuttered due to fly infestation
THE local government unit (LGU) of Asturias, Cebu continues to combat fly infestation in some barangays.
Another poultry farm in Barangay Bog-o has been ordered to temporarily cease operation due to the alarming presence of flies.
The poultry farm, name witheld upon the request of the LGU, is the third poultry facility that has been subjected to a no chick-in order by Mayor Dana Andre Dumdum for one grow cycle in all of its farm buildings.
A copy of the order obtained by MyTVCebu showed that the farm was ordered to “undertake through cleaning and disinfection.”
"This measure is intended to provide sufficient time for you to undertake through cleaning and disinfection of your facilities, fully implement the recommendations issues, and adopt improved management practices," read part of the letter.
The order further stated several inspections conducted by the Task Froce Langaw Inspection Team on May 28, 29 and June 1, 2026 showed that the farm was in an unsanitary condition with "alarming" presence of flies.
The LGU also noted that the farm has had previous similar violations, citing inspections from July 7 2025 to February 2026.
Recurring santitation issues were identified, which include improper waste management, stagnant drainage, inadequate fly-control measures, and persistent presence of flies, among others, the letter said.
A technical conference was conducted with the poultry management to discuss the concerns raised on the farm's operation, and advised the owner to address these concerns.
However during the two follow-up inpsections on October 2025, the management did not comply with the corrective measures the LGU suggested.
Another inspection was conducted in February this year following complaints received by the team, but the same issues were found in one of the buildings inside the farm, prompting the LGU to conduct a public hearing.
The poultry farm was granted another chance to continue to operate with strict compliance of the corrective measures recommended.
Failure to comply with the condition would result in closure of the farm.
"This action is necessary to prevent further inconvenience and potential health risks to the residents of the barangay" Dumdum said.
The owner was also directed to notify the Office of the Mayor if recommendations have been complied with so that another round of inspection will be conducted.
The mayor will use inspection as the basis whether or not to lift the temporary closure order.(MyTVCebu)
