CEBU City Mayor Nestor Archival has ordered an immediate crackdown on disorder at Cebu City’s port.

He called for stricter regulations to protect arriving passengers from aggressive dispatchers, forced rides, and overpriced service fees.

In a coordination meeting earlier this week, Archival described the situation at the Cebu City Pier as “complete chaos” and warned city officials to act decisively.

“This is a challenge to all of us. We want our people and visitors to feel safe the moment they arrive in Cebu,” he said.

He then directed the police authorities to pinpoint problem areas and enforce rules.

Measures under consideration include banning fixers and assigning designated taxi zones.

Meanwhile, the mayor announced plans to modernize police mobility by acquiring 25 electric patrol cars and 25 motorcycles.

Archival said this would reduce fuel costs, with the initial P12-million budget possibly drawn from the city’s disaster fund.

“Since gasoline prices are high, we are looking at electric alternatives,” he said.

He questioned the city’s current 911 emergency hotline, which costs P1–2 million monthly, and suggested switching to the DILG’s free system.

“If we are paying millions when a free option exists, we must explore it,” Archival said.(TGP)
