A 15-YEAR-old boy accused of killing his mother in Panglao, Bohol, was found to have discernment, police said.

Lt. Col. Rolan Aliser, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), said a charge for parricide has been filed against the minor, who remains under the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in Panglao.

Police are coordinating with social welfare authorities to monitor the case and determine the appropriate arrangements for the minor, including whether facilities for children in conflict with the law are available in Bohol.

Aliser said investigators reported that the boy admitted to killing his mother.

However, police have yet to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Based on the initial investigation, the alleged motive stemmed from the mother scolding the boy for always cutting classes.

“Nawala iyang panghuna-huna mao iyang nabunalan iyang inahan sa martilyo,” Aliser added, saying authorities have yet to clarify the nature of their conflict.

Investigators recovered a hammer believed to have been used in the crime, which police identified as the evidence currently available to support the case.

Authorities are also looking into the boy’s possible involvement in online gaming, particularly Roblox, as part of the broader investigation into the incident.

Aliser stressed that investigators have not established a direct connection between online gaming and the alleged crime.

Police also reported no indication so far that the minor was involved in illegal drugs.

The Women and Children Protection Desk and intelligence personnel are among those tasked to examine these aspects of the case.

Police have yet to establish other details surrounding the killing, including the full circumstances that led to the incident and whether additional evidence or witnesses could help substantiate the allegations.

Under the juvenile justice system, discernment refers to a minor’s capacity to understand the wrongfulness and consequences of an act.

The determination is relevant to how a child who allegedly committed an offense is dealt with under the law.(MyTVCebu)
