Businessman nabbed over carnapping charges

A BUSINESSMAN was arrested in Cebu City on charges of carnapping on Friday morning, March 13.

Brian Anthony Diago Savellon, 46, was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Presiding Judge James Stewart Hemalaloan of Regional Trial Court Branch 7 in Cebu City.

Savellon was charged for violation of Republic Act 10883 or The New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. A bail of P300,000 was recommended for his temporary liberty.

Operatives of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit-7 served the warrant in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Maj. Silvestre Cenia Jr. said the suspect was involved in a modus called “rentangay.”

Under the scheme, Cenia said the suspect would rent a vehicle, generate fake documents before selling the rented car.

Cenia said that one of Savellon’s alleged victims is a retired police general, whose Toyota Grandia was rented by the suspect.

The victim later learned that the van was already sold in Leyte.

Last year, another Chinese businessman filed charges against Savelloin for the same offense, Cenia said.

During the arrest, police also seized a Toyota Avanza and a Toyota Innova.(CDB)
