THE Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) is gearing up for one of its major projects since its revival.

Led by world-renowed sports doctor Rhoel Dejaño, the CPSC is planning to bring the 2026 National Youth Triathlon Championships to Camotes Island on October 3 and 4.

If plans push through, Camotes will be once again hosting a major triathlon after it hosted the Cebu leg of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) in 2017.

As part of the initial preparations, Dejaño has initiated a meeting with the mayors of San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, and Pilar.

“Privileged to have met all four mayors of Camotes Island and talk about sports programs for the island. Thank you for asking me to be the consultant for your planned unified sports commission for the whole Camotes Island. Looking forward to meaningful collaborations in the future,” Dejaño said in a Facebook post.

Dejaño also thanked the four mayors for accepting the invitation to host the competition.

Dejaño said the major sporting event is part of Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro’s vision to strengthen the province’s sports program following the reactivation of CPSC after a six-year hiatus.

The CPSC is also in the thick of preparation for the return of the Governor’s Cup Inter Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament in September.

Dejaño also disclosed that several grassroots sports programs will also be undertaken in the coming months.(CCM)
