ANOTHER batch of Cebuano college students will receive scholarships from the Cebu Provincial Government.

This comes after the launch of the 6th season of the Cebu Province – Grants Intended for Tertiary Students (CP-GIFTS) scholarship program on Tuesday, June 9, at the Capitol Social Hall.

A total of 5,900 slots are available for deserving college students, each of whom will receive P10,000 in financial assistance from the Capitol.

Of the total number of slots, 2,500 have been allocated to the Office of the Governor, 1,500 to the Office of the Vice Governor, and 1,900 to the board members.

Each board member receives 100 slots for their constituents in their respective districts.

Last year, the Provincial Board amended the CP-GIFTS ordinance, expanding its scope so that qualified college students can receive assistance from the Capitol while studying in public colleges or universities anywhere in the country, but not in private institutions.

Each beneficiary is entitled to receive a P2,000 grant per month, or P10,000 per semester.

The Capitol has earmarked P59 million per semester for the CP-GIFTS program. For 2026, the estimated budget allocation for the program is P150 million.

To qualify for the scholarship, incoming first-year college students must enroll in public colleges and universities and have at least an 85% General Weighted Average (GWA), or its equivalent, based on their Senior High School first and second semester grades.

Applicants must also have been residents of Cebu Province for at least one year, and/or their parents must be registered voters of Cebu Province.

Applicants must not be beneficiaries of any other scholarship program that provides a living allowance, and their family’s annual income must not exceed P200,000.

Those who wish to apply must have passed the admission requirements of their school, present their study load, and submit a Certificate of Good Moral Character.

Applications for the scholarship program will end on June 30, 2026.

The launch of CP-GIFTS was attended by Capitol officials led by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and Vice Gov. Glenn Anthony Soco.(MyTVCebu)
