Cebu faces elimination in MPBL playoffs

AFTER a great run in the quarterfinal round, the Cebu Greats suddenly found themselves in a tight situation.

The Greats were pushed to the brink after they bowed to the Quezon Huskers, 67-77, at the start of the South Division of the best-of-three semifinal series of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketbal League (MPBL) 2026 Season.

Quezon played without two key big men, Cedrick Manzano and Will McAloney, but Cebu couldn’t capitalize on the opponent’s handicap to move one defeat away from kissing its title hopes goodbye.

Eight Huskers scored at least seven points each in the win that saw them never looking back after erecting a huge 61-43 lead.

Mon Abundo led Quezon with 11 points, built on three triples, and four rebounds.

Cebu faltered despite getting big numbers from Mark Meneses, who tallied 27 points and 10 rebounds. Simon Camacho added nine points, 10 rebounds, and three assists while Dhon Reverente pitched in nine points, nine rebounds, and three assists.

Cebu outrebounded Quezon, 45-34, committed 19 turnovers. Quezon only turned the ball 11 times and had more assists, 21-13.(CCM)
