Eala reunites with tennis icon in DC Open doubles
ALEX Eala will reunite with a tennis legend when she competes in the doubles of WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open set in Washington, D.C. on July 27 to Aug. 2.
Eala will team up with Venus Williams per an announcement by tournament organizers.
“Dream Team. Venus Williams & Alex Eala are locked in for doubles in DC!” Mubadala DC Open wrote on its social media post.
Eala and Williams played together for the first time in the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open in Germany last month, where they made it to the quarterfinal round.
“Immensely grateful to learn from you,” Eala said then in a social media post, relishing her partnership with Williams.
The 21-year-old Eala considered Williams as one of her childhood idols.
Now 46 years old, Williams won 49 WTA Tour-level singles titles, including seven majors, and 22 doubles titles including 14 Grand Slam crowns with sister, Serena Williams.
After their first partnership, Williams also spoke highly of the Filipina tennis sensation, whom she described as “best partner.”
Eala is playing a series of competitions in the lead up to the highly anticipated US Open slated late in August until September.(CCM)
