CEBU will see mostly fair weather through the weekend, even as parts of Luzon remain under a heavy rainfall warning tied to a low-pressure system, the state weather bureau said.

In its latest outlook, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said Cebu will generally experience fair conditions from Thursday, July 30, to Saturday, August 1.

Isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms, however, could still bring moderate to heavy downpours to parts of the province during this period.

Pagasa-Mactan chief weather forecaster Jhomer Eclarino said Thursday’s flooding in Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu was not caused by the habagat, or southwest monsoon, but by localized thunderstorms.

“We will have fair weather in Cebu until the weekend… The rains we had (on Thursday) were not due to the habagat but by localized thunderstorms,” Eclarino said.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area continues to bring heavy rains in large parts of Luzon, particularly in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon and CALABARZON.

Likewise, easterlies, or the warm winds from the Pacific, have also caused cloudy skies with scattered and heavy rains in Cagayan Valley.(RBE)
