Gilas Boys whip host Thailand to top FIBA SEABA qualifiers
THE Gilas Pilipinas Boys put up a dominant run in the recently held FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA qualifiers in Thailand.
The Filipinos capped an unbeaten campaign with an 85-70 thumping of Thailand last Sunday, June 14, at the Chankapoh Gym.
Gilas got a stiff challenge from the Thais, coming away with the 15-point win after winning its first four games by an average winning margin of 66 points.
The host team even forged a 55-all deadlock late in the third period but Gilas broke free from the tight contest by staging a 13-4 attack to restore a double-digit cushion, 68-59.
Gilas then answered Thailand’s every comeback attempt and put the game away by bulding an 81-65 lead inside the final minute.
Joaquin Tovera topped Gilas with 21 points while Patrick Pasinos and Ethan Aguas contributed 13 markers each.
Giving Gilas a huge boost was Chog Moral, which came off the bench to deliver a solid all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.(CCM)
