RESIDENTS of Cebu woke up to showers on Monday, September 8.
This comes as easterlies, warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, swept across the Visayas, prompting short-lived rains and localized thunderstorms.
Engr. Al Quiblat, chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan, said that the effect of the easterlies was evident in the morning rainfall.
“Effect ng easterlies ang nasinati nato nga mga pag-ulan this morning. For the next five days, generally fair weather is expected, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms,” Quiblat said.
Cloudy skies are expected to dominate Cebu for the second week of September, with intermittent thunderstorms predicted to bring rain, according to the latest forecast from thePagasa-Mactan.
The agency also reported that the entire Visayas region will experience partly cloudy skies, punctuated by occasional rain.
While the rains in Visayas and Mindanao are expected to be short-lived, thunderstorm clouds may cause rainfall from late afternoon to evening. Pagasa-Mactan issued thunderstorm advisories covering the entire Cebu on Monday morning, warning the public about potential moderate to heavy rain.
In response, local authorities in some areas, such as Cordova, opted to suspend classes to ensure the safety of students and teachers. Disaster units across Cebu are also urged to monitor their surroundings and stay updated on weather advisories.
