Jovic eliminates Eala in HSBC Championships
AMERCAN Iva Jovic showed Filipina tennis star Alex Eala the exit door via a 6-2, 6-2 decision in their second-round duel of the HSBC Championships at the Queen’s Club on Wednesday night (Philippine time), June 10.
The battle between two close friends needed just 76 minutes to complete as the sixth-seeded Jovic dominated from start to finish to score her second straight win against Eala.
The world No. 19 Jovic also defeated the world No. 33 Eala in the first round of the French Open two weeks ago.
In the quarterfinals, Jovic will face second-seeded Amanda Anisimova in an all-American duel. The world No. 5 Anisimova advanced to the quarters via an easy 6-1, 6-3 win over Germany’s Laura Siegmund in the second round.
Falling short after a title run in the Birmingham Classic over the weekend, Eala will be taking a short break before seeing action in the Berlin Tennis Open in Germany.
The 21-year-old Eala was given a wildcard entry in the Berlin Open that will start on June 15.
Eala will also compete Bad Homburg Open before her much-awaited campaign in the Wimbledon Open slated from June 29 to July 12.(CCM)
