Malabuyoc wins anew, downs Badian in Calderon Cup

MALABUYOC went to work anew, downing host Badian, 86-79, in the 1st Calderon Cup Inter-Town 21-Under Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Badian Sports Complex in Badian, Cebu.

Fresh off an impressive 81-77 win over erstwhile unbeaten Algeria, Malabuyoc sustained its momentum to bolster its campaign as it approaches the crucial stretch of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Alegria quickly recovered from its frustrating loss to Malabuyoc as it narrowly escaped Ginatilan, 88-85.

With the twin victories, Malabuyoc and Alegria continue to share the top spot in Bracket B with identical 4-1 (win-loss) records.

Vil March Amacna topped Alegria with 27 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and two assists. Jesham Saban added 20 points, six assists, six steals, and five rebounds, while Arnold Janssen Cuevas donated 16 points.

John Luis Mansueto mustered 16 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and three assists, James Miguel Tuason tallied 17 points, and Jhon Verny Donque scored 14 but Ginatilan suffered its fourth loss against a solitary win.

TRIPLE THREAT

Malabuyoc’s triple threat Jake Leo Quim, Joseph Velarde, and Chris Donne Gadiana teamed up in the win with stellar all-around performances.

Quim piled up 26 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and an assist, Velarde tossed in 16 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, while Gadiana racked up nine points, 11 assists, eight rebounds, and six steals.

Badian, which fell to 1-4, was led by James Ivan Alvizo, who finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds,three steals, two assists, and a block. Clifford Belarmino added 15 points, Clark Aron Bulahan contibuted 14, and Lei Beltram Abranilla had 10.(CCM)
