AN AUSTRIAN court sentenced a 21-year-old man to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty of planning a terrorist attack targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna in August 2024.

According to a report by BBC News, the suspect, identified only as Beran A under Austrian privacy laws, was convicted of several terrorism-related offenses tied to a foiled plot against one of Swift’s scheduled Eras Tour performances.

Acting on a tip from the CIA, authorities arrested the man shortly before Swift was set to perform three sold-out shows at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. The threat prompted organizers to cancel all three concerts, affecting nearly 200,000 ticket holders.

Prosecutors said the suspect had become radicalized and pledged allegiance to the extremist group Islamic State (IS). Investigators also alleged that he attempted to acquire weapons, including a machine gun and a hand grenade, though those efforts were unsuccessful.

The case was heard in the city of Wiener Neustadt, where another 21-year-old defendant from Slovakia was also convicted for involvement with an IS-linked cell. He received a 12-year prison sentence, although prosecutors said he was not connected to the alleged plot against the concert.

Swift later spoke about the incident, describing it as a situation that could have resulted in a mass casualty attack. She thanked authorities for preventing the threat, saying she was grateful that people were mourning canceled concerts rather than the loss of lives.
