THE Maritime Industry Authority-Central Visayas (Marina-7) has launched its two-week susbidy program for commuters in Lapu-Lapu City.

Through the "Lakbay Alalay ng Gobyerno" subsidy program, commuters travelling from Olango Island to mainland Lapu-Lapu and vice versa will get a P10- fare discount starting Monday, May 25 until June 7.

Marina-7 partnered with transport operator Sta Rosa Ferry Express for the implementation of the initiative wherein a service contracting agreement was signed by both parties on May 19.

According to the Lapu-Lapu Public Information Office, the program covers the Sta. Rosa, Olango Island to Angasil Port in Barangay Mactan and vice versa route.

Passengers will have to pay P50 from the P60 regular fare since the government will be the one to shoulder the P10, as part of its mitigating measures to cushion the impact of the rising fuel cost.

For Sta. Rosa Ferry Express the updated fare from May 25 to June 7 is P50 for regular passengers, P40 for students, P36 for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, and P25 for minors.

The subsidy is part of the P2 million nationwide program of the national government.

Marina-7 Director Engr. Ronaldo Bandalaria said this assistance is a direct help to the commuting public who are affected by fare adjustments.

Aside from Sta. Rosa Ferry, another transport operator plying the Liloan, Santander port-Sibulan port in Dumaguete is qualified for the subsidy program.(MyTVCebu)
