CEBU'S selection as host of MICECON 2027 is expected to bring fresh opportunities for local businesses and tourism stakeholders as the province prepares to welcome thousands of meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions professionals.

The Cebu MICE Alliance, with the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Visayas, secured the hosting rights to the country’s premier MICE gathering after 13 years.

The announcement was made during the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) 2026 hosted dinner at Solaire Hotel in Manila.

For Cebu, the event provides an opportunity to put its tourism facilities, hospitality, and capacity for major events in the spotlight while generating activity for businesses that serve visitors.

The hosting is also expected to benefit hotels, restaurants, transport providers, event organizers, tourism establishments and other enterprises that form part of the MICE industry.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King Chan said the Mactan Expo Center will serve as the official venue for MICECON 2027, placing the city at the center of the province’s hosting plans.

Chan said Lapu-Lapu City’s convention facilities, tourism infrastructure, hospitality, and proximity to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport strengthened Cebu’s bid.

She said the event will give the city an opportunity to welcome MICE professionals and demonstrate what it can offer as a business and tourism destination.

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) said the hosting win also demonstrates the value of cooperation among government, businesses and tourism stakeholders.

The chamber credited the Cebu MICE Alliance, including its President Cleofe Albiso, Josef Chiongbian and Mia Singson-Leon, as well as other organizations and individuals who contributed to the successful bid.

“When Cebu works together, Cebu wins,” CCCI said.

CCCI also cited the development of the Cebu MICE Guidebook and the establishment of the alliance as part of the collaborative efforts that eventually led to Cebu securing MICECON 2027.

Beyond the event itself, the chamber said the hosting could help strengthen Cebu’s MICE industry and open more opportunities for its business community.

DOT-7 said MICECON 2027 will bring international MICE professionals to Cebu and provide a platform to showcase the province’s venues, hospitality, and sustainable approach to events.

The gathering could also give local tourism and business players greater exposure to potential partners and visitors while reinforcing Cebu’s reputation as a destination capable of handling major national and international events.

For Cebu’s tourism and business sectors, hosting MICECON represents an opportunity to turn a major event into long-term gains for the local economy.(MyTVCebu)
