PBA Comm’s Cup quarterfinals kick off

ACTION shifts to higher gear as the quarterfinal round of the 50th PBA Commissioner’s Cup gets underway with an explosive double-header Wednesday, May 13, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Sister teams NLEX Road Warriors and TNT Tropang 5G in the 5:15 p.m. first game while the Meralco Bolts and the Magnolia Hoshosts clash in the 7:30 p.m. main match.
The other two sets of quarterfinal series will have the San Miguel Beermen taking on the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Phoenix Fuel Masters battling the Barangay Ginebra Kings.
NLEX, Meralco, Rain or Shine, and Ginebra are twice-to-beat in their respective series after emerging as the top four seeds at the end of the elimination round.
NLEX ended up with the best record after the 12-game elimination round with a 10-2 (win-loss) slate. Ginebra wound up second with a 9-3 record while Rain or Shine finished third also with a 9-3 card. The Kings took the second spot via the winner-over-the-other rule as they beat the Elasto Painters in the eliminations.
Meralco took the fourth spot with eight wins and four losses. San Miguel landed at fifth spot with a 7-5 ledger followed by Magnolia, which also collected seven wins and five defeats.
TNT, despite having former NBA player Bol Bol as import, could only muster a seventh-place finish with a 6-6 record. Phoenix took the last quarterinal seat also with a 6-6 ledger.
Eliminated were Converge (5-7), Terrafirma (4-8), Macau (3-9), Titan (2-10), and Blackwater (2-10).(CCM)
