Pinoy pugs fall in Russia
TWO Filipino boxers had a rough showing in their first foray in Russia as they lost to their respective hometown bets over the weekend.
Gabriel Tapales absorbed a sixth-round knockout (KO) loss to Aznaur Kalsynov for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia featherweight title while Boholano Virgel Vitor tasted a 10th-round KO defeat to Artur Subkhankulov for the IBF Asia lightweight tiara.
Seeing his two-fight winning streak come to an end, Tapales, brother of former two-division world champion Marlon Tapales, suffered his second loss in 11 fights with six KO wins.
Kalsynov pocketed his seventh win in 11 fights. He has one loss, three draws and one KO victory.
On the other hand, Vitor of PMI Bohol Boxing Stable put up a valiant showing but ultimately fell to suffer just his first loss in his three fights.
Overall, Vitor dropped to 24W-5L, 17KOs.
Subkhankulov, who sealed the win with a barrage of punches that wobbled Vitor in the final round, preserved his unbeaten pro career start, tallying his 11th straight win now laced with five KO victories.(CCM)
