Robredo: ‘I will not run for national office in 2028’
FORMER Vice President Leni Robredo is not keen on running for a national post in 2028 as she intends to remain in Naga City and seek a second term as mayor.
Interviewed by RMN dwNX on Tuesday, April 21, Robredo said she is certain about not returning to national politics, stressing her focus on continuing local governance and completing programs she began in Naga City.
Robredo, who served as vice president from 2016 to 2022, said her current role allows her to work more directly with communities, adding that three years is not enough to accomplish all her planned initiatives.
“I am certain about myself that I will no longer run for any
national position,” she said in the interview per a report by Inquirer.net.
Her decision comes as political observers assess the potential impact on the opposition ahead of the 2028 elections, where Sara Duterte has earlier signaled plans to run for president.
Analysts said Robredo’s move could leave a leadership gap among opposition groups, given her strong grassroots support following her 2022 presidential bid.(Rodgelyn Morales, CTU-TC BAEL-ELSD Intern)
