Stabbings in New York Penn Station leave 6 hurt
AT LEAST six persons were injured in a knife attack at New York's Penn station on Sunday evening.
According to the New York City Fire Department, one person sustained serious injuries, while two others were treated for moderate wounds as paramedics were called to the scene at the city’s major transit hub around 7 p.m.
Several additional victims were reported to have minor injuries who were then transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, a report by Associated Press stated.
Police have confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody, though details regarding the individual or a potential motive have not been released.
The violence took place in a high-traffic area directly beneath Madison Square Garden, where President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend NBA Finals Game 3 between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.
The event, which marks the first NBA Finals game hosted at the arena since 1999, has already drawn a massive security presence.
The Secret Service and the New York Police Department were already prepared for a substantial operation due to the presidential visit.
It remains unclear if officials will further adjust security measures in response to the attack on Monday night's game. The area remains a critical gateway for millions of commuters, travelers, and sports fans despite the incident. (April Jane A. Cabalida, CNU Comm Intern)
