UP-Cebu beats UCLM to end winless start
THE University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons clipped the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters, 66-59, to finally barge into the win column of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 26 collegiate basketball tournament on Wednesday night, Sept. 30, at the Cebu Coliseum.
UP snatched the elusive win by staging a fiery 20-9 run in the third quarter where it built a 54-44 lead after falling behind by a point at the half, 34-35.
The Fighting Maroons, thus, improved to 1-4 (win-loss), becoming the last team to register a win in the nine-team field.
On the other hand, the woes of the slumping Webmasters continued as they suffered a fourth straight defeat that pulled them down to 1-6.
Aj De Los Reyes finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Fighting Maroons. Adding nine points each for UP were Kenneth Robert Fuller Jr. and Raul Gilbuena.
Nino Wenraye Sarol and Aron-Dave Kress chipped in eight markers apiece in the victory.
Dan Mitchell Ferraren led UCLM with 14 points.(CCM)
