CHESS enthusiasts in the 7th District of Cebu will finally get their turn to strut their wares.

After the successful holding of volleyball and basketball tournaments, chess will now take center stage in the Calderon Cup Developmental League, with Moalboal hosting a two-day tournament on Aug. 29 and 30.

The tournament will feature the 12-Under, 18-Under, and Open Divisions.

"A lot of players in the seventh district excel in chess and we've had players compete at the national level," said Cebu 7th District Rep. Patsy Calderon. "We hope this tournament will also give others a chance to hone their skills and prepare them for their respective District Meets."

Just like in the volleyball and basketball tournaments, cash prizes await top finishers.

The champion in the 12-Under division will pocket P1,500, while the runner-up earns P1,000. The third placer will get P700, while the fourth to 10th placers earn P500. In the 18-Under, the champion will earn P3,000, while the runner-up gets P2,000. The third placer gets P1,000, while the rest of the top 10 players earn P700.

In the Open Division, the top three winners get P5,000, P3,000, and P2,000, respectively, while the fourth to 10th placers will pocket P1,000.

Moalboal is hosting the chess tournament after it ruled last week’s Calderon Cup-Alcantara Fiesta League.(CCM)
