World leaders express support for PH after Mindanao quake
INTERNATIONAL organizations and governments have expressed support for the Philippines and offered assistance after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Mindanao on Monday, June 8.
Several world leaders issued messages of solidarity as Philippine authorities continued assessing the extent of the disaster.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Japan was prepared to provide assistance should the Philippines require additional support during response and recovery operations.
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te likewise conveyed sympathy to those affected and affirmed Taiwan’s readiness to help as communities begin rebuilding efforts.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the earthquake and expressed support for those recovering from injuries sustained during the disaster.
Foreign diplomatic missions in Manila also signaled their willingness to assist Philippine-led relief efforts.
The United States Embassy said it was closely monitoring developments and coordinating with local authorities, emphasizing its readiness to support ongoing response operations if needed, a report by Philstar said.
Meanwhile, the United Nations in the Philippines said it was working alongside government agencies and humanitarian partners to evaluate the earthquake’s impact and prepare for potential recovery assistance.
European diplomatic missions joined the growing international response, with the German Embassy expressing sympathy for affected communities and the French Embassy extending condolences to victims and their families while reaffirming its solidarity with the Filipino people.
Ambassadors from allied nations likewise shared messages of support. Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown conveyed condolences to bereaved families and wished affected communities a swift recovery.
Japan’s ambassador to the Philippines also offered prayers for the safety and well-being of residents, particularly those living in coastal provinces in Mindanao and neighboring areas impacted by the powerful tremor.
