2 OFWs killed by Lebanese employer
TWO overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were killed during a hostage incident in Beirut, Lebanon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported.
The suspect was the employer of the two OFWs.
The victims, both long-time household service workers, were fatally shot on April 15 inside their employer’s residence.
Authorities have arrested the employer, and charges are now being prepared.
According to The Philippine Star, officials from the DMW, Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay, are set to visit the victims’ families to extend condolences and assure them of full government support.
The tragic incident occurred while more OFWs continued to arrive home amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Last April 18, 104 Filipinos arrived in the country in the seventh repatriation flight from Abu Dhabi.
The group included 82 OFWs, 21 dependents, and one stranded tourist.(Georgia Olivar, USJ-R Comm Intern)
