Diesel prices surge by over P12 per liter as oil firms implement fesh hikes
DIESEL prices marked another significant increase this week with oil companies announcing double-digit hikes amid sustained global oil price pressures.
According to separate advisories, Shell and Jetti Petroleum raised diesel by P12.90 per liter, while PetroGazz, Seaoil, and UniOil implemented P12.50 per liter increases.
Gasoline prices also climbed, though at a slower pace.
Shell raised gasoline by P2.90 per liter, UniOil and PetroGazz by P2.50 per liter, while Jetti Petroleum implemented a P1 per liter increase. Seaoil kept gasoline prices unchanged.
For kerosene, Shell raised prices by P2.40 per liter, and Seaoil by P2 per liter.
According to the Department of Energy 9DOE) monitoring from March 24 to 30, diesel in Metro Manila ranged from P105.00 to P131.90 per liter, with a common price of around P119.20, a report by Philstar said.
With the latest increase, diesel prices could climb to roughly P117.50 to P144.80 per liter, with typical pump prices reaching P131–132.
Gasoline (RON95), currently priced between P84.99 and P108.90, may increase by P1 to P2.90 per liter, pushing common prices closer to P100–112. Meanwhile, kerosene prices, already high at P140–166.79, could rise further by P2–2.40 per liter.
The DOE reported that 22.58 million liters (or 142,000 barrels) of diesel have arrived as the first delivery under the Emergency Energy Security Program.
Separately, Petron has secured 2.48 million barrels of crude oil from Russia, expected to support supply until June. Authorities say these measures aim to cushion the domestic market from global oil volatility.(Zsarrhied Samantha A. Tanjay, CTU-TC BAEL-ELSD Intern)
