P85 wage hike put on hold by Pasig court
DAYS after the P85 wage increase took effect, a Pasig court has ordered Metro Manila employers to maintain the previous wage rates pending a legal challenge.
The Department of Labor and Employment confirmed the court order, which puts the implementation of the wage hike on hold as the petition moves forward.
Readycon Trading and Construction Corp. and R-11 Builders Inc. had questioned the validity of the wage increase in their petition.
Instead of issuing a 72-hour temporary restraining order, the court issued a status quo ante order, requiring the existing wage rates to be maintained while the case is raffled to a court that will hear the petition.
The P85 daily wage increase took effect on July 25. Employers had warned that the higher labor costs could lead to layoffs.(MyTVCebu)
