PH gets 21,000 MT LPG from US
THE Philippines has received 21,000 metric tons (MT) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States as part of efforts to strengthen the countryโs energy supply amid a national energy emergency.
The Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) said the shipment is intended to support emergency stabilization measures and ensure continued access to fuel during supply challenges.
According to PNOC, the additional LPG volume will boost the countryโs inventory levels and help prevent possible supply disruptions in key demand areas.
The shipment arrived on May 30 at the Calaca Industrial Seaport Corp. Industrial Park and will be stored at the South Pacific Inc. Terminal in Calaca, Batangas, a Philstar report said.
The shipment consisted of 50 percent refrigerated propane and 50 percent refrigerated butane sourced from Enterprise Port in Texas, United States. The cargo was procured through Trafigura Pte. Ltd. on April 13.
PNOC said it coordinated all operational and safety requirements prior to the shipmentโs arrival, ensuring compliance with strict safety standards and efficient handling procedures.
The delivery is part of the Department of Energyโs Emergency Energy Security Program, which tasks PNOC with procuring LPG reserves and PNOC Exploration Corp. with securing diesel supply.
PNOC also issued a Notice of Product Availability to fast-track the release of fuel inventories to qualified partners for efficient downstream distribution.
โThe delivery of PNOC-procured LPG demonstrates the concrete actions being undertaken by the DOE and PNOC to strengthen the countryโs fuel reserves, support supply stability and help ensure the continuous availability of LPG during the ongoing national energy emergency,โ PNOC senior vice president Graciela Barleta said.(Shanice Kaye Ocio, CNU Comm Intern)
