Sinag Liga Asya Junior World Showcase fires off
SOME of the world’s top aspiring basketball players gather under one roof as the Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase opens on Wednesday, July 1, at the New Cebu Coliseum.
Several high-profile government officials and sports stakeholders are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the tournament spearheaded by SLA Chairman Rocky Chan.
According to organizers, Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to grace the opening ceremony along with Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival.
Cebu City Sports Commission and Cebu Provincial Sports Commission Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejano, University of Cebu Chairman Atty. Augusto W. Go, Elizabeth Gan Go, Edmund Porter, Winley Dela Fuente, and Atty. Mans Carpio, husband of the Vice President, are also expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Officials from the Bohol Provincial Sports Council, led by Governor's Cup Executive Commissioner Stephen Rances, Deputy Executive Commissioner Leonardo Simbit, and Head Commissioner Peter Naron, are likewise expected to witness the opening festivities.
The SLA Junior World Showcase will feature 50 teams from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines.
The tournament will feature five age-group divisions with games to be played in four venues: the New Cebu Coliseum, Cebu City Sports Institute in Sawang Calero, Magnum Sports Complex, and the University of San Carlos Downtown Campus Gymnasium.
The opening ceremony begins at 8 a.m. following the 7 a.m. assembly, with tournament action immediately set to unfold across the four venues.(CCM)
