‘Alcantara Fiesta League’ fires off

SPORTS enthusiasts in the Seventh District of Cebu are in for an exciting volleyball action with the staging of the “Alcantara Fiesta League” from August 21-22 at the Alcantara Sports Complex.

“This is actually a continuation of the Calderon Cup volleyball program of Cong. Patsy Calderon. Volleyball has lesser exposure than basketball so she wants that if possible, we will have a volleyball tournament during fiestas,” said Calderon Cup Tournament Director Atty. Ramil Abing.

Aside from basketball and volleyball tournaments, the Calderon Cup will also feature chess and football tournaments.

The “Alcantara Fiesta League,” an initiative of Alcantara Mayor Fritz Lastimosa, will be participated by teams from host town Alcantara, Badian, Dumanjug, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, Ronda, Moalboal, and Alegria.

The teams will be manned by the same players who saw action in the Calderon Cup Volleyball Tournament.

A top purse of P20,000 will go to the champion team while the losing finalist will get P15,000.

The second runner-up will receive P10,000.

A separate cash prize of P7,000 will also be given to the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.(CCM)
