Cebu tallies 2nd straight win in MPBL

AFTER a two-game flop at home, the Cebu Greats have fully rediscovered their groove after scoring a second straight win via an 87-74 drubbing of the Marikina Bigz Burger in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 2026 on Thursday night, July 31, in San Juan City.

Limuel Tampus fired a game-high 20 points and delivered timely hits as Cebu improved to 16-5 (win-loss) that bolstered its outright playoffs bid.

Tampus also recorded six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block to earn Best Player of the Game honors.

Marikina further slipped down the standings with a third straight debacle for a 6-14 slate.

Cebu found itself down after 10 minutes of play, 16-18, but limited Marikina to just nine points in the second quarter while unloading 20 for a 36-27 cushion at the half.

Al Francis Tamsi backed Tampus with 19 points behind five three-pointers, while Mark Meneses dominated the interior with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds. Alvin Baetiong added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Deo Timajo paced the Bigz Burger with 20 points, six assists, and nine rebounds. John Ray Alabanza added 16 markers, while Jeepy Faundo contributed 11 points.
