Gilas Pilipinas to host Window 4 of World Cup Asian Qualifiers
GILAS Pilipinas will host the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced that the fourth window will be held from August 28 to 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Gilas will lead the six competing teams from Group E in the two-day tournament.
On Aug. 28, matches will pit Syria versus Australia, Iran versus New Zealand, and Gilas versus Jordan. The final day of the competition on Aug. 30 will have Australia taking on Jordan, New Zealand battling Syria, and Gilas facing off with Iran.
The fourth window had to be transferred to the Philippines due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Hosting the fourth window is a big boost for Gilas as it seeks to snap a four-game slide. The slump pulled the Nationals down to the bottom in Group E along with Syria with identical 2-4 (win-loss) records.
The Nationals started the qualifiers with two straight wins before dropping their next four, including their last two games against New Zealand and Australia.
Australia leads Group E with a perfect 6-0 card. Iran and Jordan are tied at second place with 5-1 records while New Zealand is at fourth with a 4-2 ldger.
The top three teams in the group will earn outright berths to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.(CCM)
