THAI authorities are investigating whether negligence contributed to the deadly fire at Bangkok’s Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao after investigators found locked exit doors, obstructed entrances, poorly marked emergency exits, and highly flammable decorations.

The blaze left 30 people dead while more than 70 others were injured, including 24 who remain in critical condition.

According to a report by BBC, Police General Kittiratt Phanphet said the findings “indicates a lack of caution and disregard for the safety of the patrons.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a short circuit in an air conditioner, which quickly cut power throughout the venue.

Fire safety experts also found combustible materials on the stage and ceiling that may have accelerated the spread of the flames, while many victims were found near the restrooms after apparently trying to escape.

Bangkok authorities are also reviewing fire safety regulations for restaurants and entertainment venues as investigators continue to examine the cause of the tragedy(Feirnchae M. Lim, UP Cebu Comm Intern)
